Xiaomi HyperOS 3.1: New Design, Android 16, and iOS-Style Features

Xiaomi has released a new update called HyperOS 3.1. This update is now coming to selected devices. It does not change everything at once; instead, it focuses on making the phone feel faster, look cleaner, and offer more ways to customize the screen.

Design and Animations

The most noticeable change in HyperOS 3.1 is how it looks and moves. Xiaomi is using a new design style called Material 3 Expressive.

This makes the icons and menus look more colorful and rounded.

To make the phone feel more natural, Xiaomi updated its Liquid Engine 3.0. This system handles animations.

Now, when you swipe or close an app, it moves with “real-world” physics.

This means the icons have weight and momentum, making the phone feel much smoother to use.

Home Screen and Recent Apps Changes

The update also changes how you organize your home screen and apps:

  • Flexible Folders: You can now resize folders into different shapes (like 2×1 or 1×2). This helps you fit more apps on one screen without it looking messy.

  • New Recent Apps: The menu where you see your open apps has changed. It now uses a “Stacked Recents” look that moves horizontally, similar to how an iPhone works. This makes it easier to swipe through and find the app you want.

The lock screen is now more useful. HyperOS 3.1 adds new tools that let you see information such as the weather or your step count without unlocking the phone.

You can also customize fonts and colours more deeply to make the phone feel more personal.

HyperOS 3.1 is built on Android 16. This makes the device more secure and helps the battery last longer.

While the previous version (3.0) was a big leap in technology, version 3.1 is about fixing the small details to make the whole experience feel perfect.

HyperOS 3.1 Rollout and Eligible Devices

Xiaomi is currently testing HyperOS 3.1 on its newest flagship phones. This update is special because it only goes to devices running Android 16. If a phone stays on Android 15, it will likely stay on the older HyperOS 3.0.

Here are the devices expected to get the update first:

  • Xiaomi Series: Xiaomi 17 (Upcoming), Xiaomi 15 Ultra, Xiaomi 15, Xiaomi 14 Ultra, Xiaomi 14.
  • Foldables: Xiaomi MIX Flip.
  • Tablets: Xiaomi Pad Mini.
  • POCO: POCO F7 Ultra, POCO F7 Pro.
  • Redmi Note 14 Series (Pro and Pro+ models).
  • Xiaomi 15T and 15T Pro.
  • Xiaomi Pad 7 and 7 Pro.

Important Note: Devices Missing Out

Because HyperOS 3.1 requires Android 16, some popular older phones will likely not get this specific update and will stay on version 3.0:

  • Xiaomi 12 series and Xiaomi 12T series.
  • Redmi Note 13 5G and Redmi 13C.
  • POCO F5 series and POCO M6 Pro.
